Repost: Guest Blog - What Types of Cloth Diapers Are There?

When you start exploring cloth diapers, you'll quickly realize there are many different brands and diaper systems. This can be quite intimidating at first, because how do you know what works for you and your baby? What's the difference between all the systems? In this blog post, I'll explain the different systems and highlight some of their advantages and disadvantages.

All in one system

The All-in-One system most closely resembles a disposable diaper (but much nicer!). The diaper is made of one piece. The outer layer is moisture-resistant, while the inner layer is absorbent. An absorbent insert is attached to the inner layer. These diapers are often not leak-proof, so they're mainly useful for quick changes on the go or when potty training, for example.

Two-piece diaper systems

Two-piece washable diapers , as the name suggests, consist of two parts: an absorbent inner diaper and a waterproof outer diaper. The advantage of this diaper system is that it's the most leak-proof. These diapers are therefore suitable for many babies and can often be worn overnight. The downside is that they form a somewhat thicker diaper, and changing them is a bit more labor-intensive because of the two diaper pants. Fortunately, there are many diaper pants these days that can simply be worn over them, such as the lovely ones from BolleBillen :)

Snap in one system

The snap-in-one system consists of a diaper cover and an insert. The insert clicks into the diaper cover. You change the insert after each diaper change, and the diaper cover can be reused multiple times. This system is easy to change, but naturally, you'll need to change it more often than with a two-piece diaper system.

Folded diapers

Folded diapers are most similar to the old-fashioned cloth diapers of the past. They're essentially cotton muslin cloths that you fold around your baby using a special technique. Ideal for newborns, they're also much cheaper than other cloth diapers. However, they're a bit more work to change, and it can be tricky to figure out the perfect fit for your baby.

Hopefully, the different types of cloth diapers and their pros and cons have become a bit clearer. Be sure to check out the video tutorials on Fancy Pantsy if you'd like to see exactly how to use the different diapers!
